Your driver will pick you up from your riad in Marrakech in an air-conditioned 4×4 car. Shortly after, you travel across the Atlas Mountains and via the Tizi n’Tichka pass, the highest peak in North Africa. Along the road, you will stop at panoramic viewpoints for breaks and to take photos.
Shortly after the Tizi n’Tichka passes, a side road leads to the Kasbah Telouet. Here, you will visit with a local guide. This Kasbah has served as headquarters to the last Pasha of Marrakech and a residence of the Glaoui family. Certain parts of it are in ruins, but others are still intact and are a good representation of tiling work.
From here, you drive via the varying landscapes of the Ounila Valley to Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou. This is the most famous kasbah in Morocco and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Kasbah has also been used as a film set for various Hollywood movies including “Gladiator”. After lunch, you will visit the Kasbah with a local guide to learn about the history of this site.
In the afternoon, you will drive past Ouarzazate to the Skoura Oasis. Here, explore the palm fields and tour the Kasbah Amredhil. Driving further east, the journey continues along the Roses Valley and then Kel’aa M’gouna. Next, you can visit the local cosmetic co-operatives. By the end of the afternoon, you arrive at the Dades Gorges. Here, a beautiful guest house offers dinner and night’s rest.
After breakfast, today’s journey starts by driving along Dades Valley, full of olive trees and green fields. Along the road, enjoy the beautiful sceneries of the valley and local agriculture. In Tinghir oases, explore the Toudgha Gorges and take a walk alongside the riverbank through massive canyons. If desired, you can for a short hike with a local guide beyond the gorge.
After lunch at the gorge, you continue your desert adventure to Erfoud. Here, you will visit the fossil exhibits and sample the locally found fossils and marbles. Shortly after, you drive further east to Rissani, the last town before the desert.
Here in Merzouga, enjoy a camel ride over the dunes of Erg Chebbi and take photos of the sunset. Back at the camp, sip a glass of tea and check in to your private nomad tent.
At night, taste dinner under the starry sky of the Sahara, and enjoy drumming and music around a fire camp. Overnight in a comfortable tent in a desert camp near the big dunes of Erg Chebbi.
Get up early in the morning and climb to the summit of the dunes. You will witness the sunrise and experience the peaceful moments of the Sahara. After breakfast, experience a scenic drive through the sand dunes of Erg Chebbi. Back on the paved road, travel across the Ziz Valley, full of palm trees and adobe kasbahs.
From here, you head north as far as Midelt, nicknamed “the apple capital” and will be the venue for lunch. In the afternoon, you drive over the Middle Atlas Mountains and via the Tizi-n-Talremt pass. Next, you drive along a beautiful road bordered by green oaks and cedar trees as far as Azrou. Here, you can watch the Barbary apes roaming around the trees.
