Erg Chegaga desert trip from Marrakech 4 days – itinerary

1st day: Marrakech – Ouarzazate

Travel over the often-snow-covered Atlas Mountains and drive via the famous Tizi-n-Tichka. All along the road, you will stop at panoramic viewpoints to admire the beautiful setting of the valleys and the Berber villages.

After descending the Atlas Mountains, a side road leads to the famous and former residential palace, Kasbah Telouet. Tour the kasbah to discover Moroccan tiling artwork and wood and silver craftsmanship that decorates the ceiling and the doors of the kasbah.

After a scenic drive along the beautiful Ounila Valley, you will arrive at Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a favourite film location for several Hollywood blockbusters.

After lunch in one of the restaurants alongside the Salt River, you will visit the kasbah with a local guide. Learn about the history and the cinematic artworks that were filmed on this site.

Arrive at Ouarzazate by the end of the afternoon. Tour the local souk and sip a glass of tea overlooking the main square of Ouarzazate. At night, a beautiful riad offers dinner and a night’s rest.

2nd day: Ouarzazate – Erg Lihoudi Dunes

Following a traditional breakfast in your riad, continue your Erg Chigaga desert trip from Marrakech. Travel over the Middle Atlas Mountains and via the Tizi-n-Tinfifte pass. After Agdz, visit Kasbah Tamnougalte and explore the unlimited palm tree fields and photograph the fortified Kasbahs.

Continue travelling south alongside the ancient Road of the Caravans as far as Zagora, the last town before the Sahara Desert. 3rd day: Erg Lihoudi Dunes – Erg Chagaga Dunes
