Itinerary of This Marrakech Desert Tour to Merzouga:

1st day: Marrakech – Dades Gorges

Start your Marrakech desert tour to Merzouga by morning departure from your accommodation in Marrakech.  Travel over the high Atlas Mountains and via the famous Tizi-n-Tichka pass, the highest peak in Africa. From the summit, the views of the green valleys and the adobe-built Berber villages are spectacular.

You continue to descend the Atlas Mountains as far as Ouarzazate. After lunch, a side road leads to Skoura Oasis, full of palm trees, and fortified Kasbahs. Visit the beautifully repaired Kasbah Amredhil and tour its small museum, featuring ancient agriculture tools and housing furniture.

Driving further east, you travel through the Road of a Thousand kasbahs. It very remarkable for its fortified Kasbah nestled among the palm trees. After the Valley of the Roses, you continue to Kel’aa M’gouna. Here, you can visit local cooperatives producing cosmetic products.

By the end of the afternoon, you will arrive at Dades Gorges. Here, a beautiful guest-house at the edge of the valley offers dinner and night’s rest.

2nd day: Dades Gorges – Merzouga

After breakfast, enjoy a walk by the Boumalne Dades Valley and explore the green fields and the local agriculture.  Next, you continue to the much talked about Erg Chebbi dunes in Merzouga via the Toudgha Gorges.

Here, you can take a walk alongside the riverbank and through the massive canyons. Shortly after, have lunch in a restaurant overlooking the massive canyons. In the afternoon, your Marrakech to Merzouga desert trip continues to the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. Travel along the Ziz Valley, remarkable for its huge palm tree and fortified kasbahs.

Here in Merzouga, an hour to an hour and a half camel ride leads to the dunes of Erg Chebbi (250m). From the top of these towering dunes, the sunset and the views are spectacular and the tranquillity is immersive.

At the campsite near the big dunes, you will be welcomed by traditional mint tea and Moroccan biscuits. At night, dinner is served under a sky full of stars, followed by a musical play and Berber drumming. A comfortable nomad tent offers a night’s rest.

3rd day: Merzouga – Ouarzazate

Get up early in the morning and climb to the summit of the dunes. From here, admire the spectacle of the sunrise end enjoy the tranquillity of the Sahara. After breakfast in the camp, you travel from Erg Chebbi dunes to Ouarzazate. The road goes through the Berber villages of Rissani, Alnif, Tazzarine, and N’Qob.
